OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The WHO Department for Management of Noncommunicable Diseases, Disability, Violence and Injury Prevention (NVI) advances global health through the prevention of violence, injury, vision and hearing loss; the management of NCDs; strengthening health systems to provide rehabilitation services; and enhancing the quality of life for people with disability. To do so it uses advocacy, data collection, trend monitoring, evaluation and dissemination of best practices in prevention and policy. The rehabilitation team works to • Provide normative guidance, resources and technical support to member states to strengthen rehabilitation governance and financing and the implementation of quality rehabilitation services across all levels of the health system;• Strengthen the availability of robust evidence for rehabilitation through collection of global data, and guiding the research agenda;• Foster rehabilitation networks and partnerships through convening stakeholders and shaping collaborative work plans with partners;• Provide standards and resources to support the integration of rehabilitation in emergency response care and coordination.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES


1. Support member states upon request on the development, implementation, and monitoring of rehabilitation policies;


2. Work closely with other WHO departments to ensure the integration of rehabilitation in other health programs and areas;


3. Lead the development of an Evidence Package of Rehabilitation Interventions;


4. Lead the data collection in countries of a global country survey on rehabilitation;


5. Work with the WHO Department of Information, Evidence and Research to develop rehabilitation standards and integrate them in the DHIS;


6. Lead the collaboration with relevant global alliances and consortia related to rehabilitation;


7. Work with the Department's communication team to develop material on rehabilitation;


8. Perform all other duties as may be assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


Education


Essential : An Masters-level equivalent university degree in Medicine and specialization in rehabilitation.


Desirable : Advanced degree in public health, political sciences or a related field.


Experience


Essential : Minimum 7 years of clinical experience in rehabilitation including a minimum 3 year of experience in supporting the strategic planning of rehabilitation policies and services. At least three years of international experience.


Desirable : Experience in public health and epidemiology. Degree or experience in international relations.


Skills

Knowledge of the principles and practices of rehabilitation in middle- and low-income countries. Excellent expertise and skills in project management of international projects. Excellent written and spoken English being able to write documents in a clear and concise manner, tailored to the needs of the intended audience. High organization and communication skills. Ability to work with partners within and outside WHO. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Results orientated. Knowledge of public health and epidemiology.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 71,332 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4244 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
