The aim of the new Botnar Research Centre for Child Health (BRCCH), founded jointly by the University of Basel and ETH Zurich, is to combine stellar science and clinical research from various disciplines to develop new methods and digital innovations to improve the health of children worldwide. The BRCCH (www.brcch.org) is supported by a generous donation from Fondation Botnar.
To set up this unique research centre, which is based in Basel, we are seeking a dynamic and committed Chief Operating Officer - COO to start on 1 January 2019 or by arrangement. Your position
The successful candidate will report to the Director and will be responsible for the operational setup and running of the centre and all of its administrative processes. He or she will work closely with researchers and service entities from both universities.
The setting up of the office and the recruiting of suitable employees will have initial priority. Working in close cooperation with the Director, the COO will develop the organisational foundations of the Centre (regulations, processes etc.) and ensure its smooth running. He or she will establish and curate a national and international network of partners in academia, industry and the non-profit sector, together with the respective communication channels. He or she will also support the Director and Deputy Director in further strategic and operational tasks, which include financial planning and reporting, infrastructure management, events organisation, research project announcements, and preparation and wrap-up for meetings of various bodies. The successful candidate holds a university degree (preferably a doctorate) in a discipline relevant to the Centre and has managerial experience in academia, administration and/or industry. Ideally, he or she will have experience of managing complex research projects and translating their results into practice. The candidate works in a structured and efficient manner, is able to analyse problems and seek targeted solutions, and takes a pronounced service-oriented approach. He/she is a resilient, communicative person with outstanding social and leadership skills.
