Purpose of position
This position is a key success factor for Alcon – to build sustainable business and win “moments of truth” with ECPs regarding our vision care products
The main purpose for this position is to enhance the image and reputation of Alcon in the optometric eye care community, serve to develop and maintain professional relationships with Eye Care Professionals, and to provides clinical information that affects fitting / recommending behavior & decisions as well as provide high quality technical and clinical consultancy to the EMEA region.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading technical, clinical and professional activities in support of brand and customer needs.
Specific tasks associated with this role include: contributing to the management, administration, development and delivery of education programmes to the countries in collaboration with their needs; and, being responsible for the quality of educational content delivered as part of Alcon Vision Care trade media strategy.
Major Accountabilities
• Leadership and Support to Sales and Marketing Teams.
• Work closely with the marketing and sales team to develop and deliver effective and integrated professional materials and programs aligned with the global and regional strategy.
• Support the sales and marketing teams to optimise the various sales and marketing strategies and programs from a professional services angle.
• Serve as the “face and nerve centre of the profession” in EMEA.
• Be an advocate for ECPs and customers within the market.
• Maintain Alcon’s high quality, professional & ethical image / reputation and serve as a liaison to present and future eye care professionals, distributors & trade press.
Establish the vision, set priorities and provide leadership for the Professional Affairs Department that supports the organization by providing:
• Professional, technical and clinical advice.
• Technical interpretation of clinical and scientific literature and reports.
• Professional education for ECPs across EMEA, academic programs for schools colleges & University programs (3 Os - ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians).
• Represent Alcon’s Vision Care (Contact Lens, Lens Care and Dry Eye) products to the optometric community.
• Ensure Alcon has strong connections with professional eye care community.
• Develop and manage relationships with key opinion leaders (KOL’s), major industry influencers, professional organizations / associations, educational institutions and researchers to be at the forefront of the industry and gain leading edge knowledge of practitioner and industry insights.
• Serve in an advisory capacity on any clinical / technical /medial related issues involving Alcon products and/or professional matters for Management supporting the Head of Professional Affairs in EMEA.
• Provide Clinical / Technical support to the Regional Communications Team on product and/or category related issues affecting Alcon image in the EMEA market place.
• Serve on Issues Management team with a key role as External Communications & Media spokes-person back up to the Head role.
• Provide leadership and foster development of Local Professional Affairs Managers ensuring that they have the proper skills and clinical / technical knowledge including being consistent, up to date and current on products, programs and issues affecting Alcon.
• Cooperate with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory Affairs to monitor, under-stand and provide expertise in identifying new product development opportunities and identifying / resolving product quality / performance issues

Experience:
• Minimum of 8 years clinical practice or industry experience.
• Experience in a private practice environment (preferred)
• Strong interpersonal skills suitable for working in a multicultural/multinational environment
• Fellow of the British Contact Lens Association (preferred)
Competencies:
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Good selling and interpersonal skills
• An ability to work well with marketing, customer service and the other members of the team is essential
• Computer/Technical Literacy: Computer-literate performer with software proficiency covering a variety of applications. Moderate knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential
Education:
• Undergraduate or masters’ degree in optometry required
• Business qualification (optional – extra asset).
Languages:
• Fluent in English is essential
• Additional European languages are preferred
