The Opportunity

You will lead our material innovation by applying/feeding footwear/apparel material expertise into strategic product development programs. You will get the chance to carry out research and development in materials which fuels the overall material development efforts ultimately driving revolutionary material innovations to On products. You will strategically develop materials that support brand direction for key concept products.

 

Key responsibilities include:

- Evaluate On’s current material landscape manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for gains in product performance manufacturing efficiency. - Manage the sourcing of of new material and technologies based on business trends, trade shows, and the competitive landscape used in the production of footwear and apparel.- Manage collaborations with chemical vendors, the factories and On teams (Innovation Team, Product Creation Team, Development Team Asia and Operations) to successfully implement these technologies into mass production.- Research new chemical processes and technologies and the future business models with internal/ external partners to gain full understanding of upcoming needs.- Look outside the footwear, apparel and textile industries for material innovation opportunities.- Help build and manage a growing team of material managers and engineers (Asia ans Switzerland) and set goals that are aligned with department, country, regional, and functional objectives.- Manage SOP, best practice manual, product design & engineering guidelines to ensure smooth processes and technology implementation.- Ensure all legal requirements and consult with legal department as needed.- Work closely with material-specific targets in regard to the On sustainability agenda.- Drive a holistic business strategy to maximize cost competitiveness and assure ideal supply landscape.

- Excellent understanding of materials manufacturing, of usage of computers as a tool for research and communication as well as footwear and/or apparel design- Excellent knowledge in theories and laws of chemistry

- Strong knowledge in adhesive technologies and processes 

- Expert knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies in footwear bottom and upper materials- Expert knowledge of commercially accepted levels of evaluative and analytical test results- Very strong interpersonal skills to maximize the productivity of the application team- Ability to network with multiple customers 

- Ability to effectively communicate (both written and verbal) and to lead discussions in small and larger groups- Ability to cope with change, make decisions and act comfortably with risk and uncertainty- Ability to travel, domestic and international as required by business needs- 3+ years of progressive work experience in material research and/or development- Bachelor's degree in Textile Sciences, Textile Engineering/Technology, Design or related field- Footwear and or apparel industry experience is ideal- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
