Purpose of the position
The IP & Trade Manager supports IFPMA’s work in intellectual property and trade policy, particularly regarding monitoring of and response to work streams arising from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other multilateral organizations. The Manager also prepares and, as appropriate, coordinates industry’s submissions to inter-governmental discussions and supports IFPMA’s national associations on IP-related issues with an international dimension.
The Manager supports and coordinates IFPMA members in developing policy, managing policy-related tasks and projects within budget. This includes project management, organization of committee meetings and support on policy, technical and regulatory aspects of global IP and trade activities. He/she will also represent the global manufacturers in discussions with external stakeholders and promote sustainable IP and trade policies via strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The candidate
The preferred candidate for this position will have a solid understanding of IP laws and an advanced university degree in intellectual property or trade (WTO) law, with other degrees an advantage. The person should have at least 3-5 years’ experience in the area of IP and trade law obtained working in a relevant organization, law firm pharmaceutical company, trade association or relevant government/international organization. The candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, analytical capabilities, experience in external advocacy and presentations, and exposure to the dynamics of the public affairs, policy, diplomatic, NGO and trade association environment, in particular Geneva-based organizations such as WIPO and WTO.
The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of pharmaceutical IP and trade legal and policy issues. Candidates will be fluent in English, and other languages are an advantage.
