Project Manager (R&D Global Project management)


The purpose of this position is to lead a single project and/or multiple sub-projects within a program/portfolio, from initiation and planning, through to execution, monitoring and closure. The role will be based at CSL Behring’s Bern site and will report to the Director, Bern EP/CMC Project Management Site Head.


Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


Working closely with and under the guidance of the Senior Project Manager of the program, this position will:



  • Lead a local project team and/or subteams and actively participate in associated team meetings including expert teams.

  • Develop and manage the scope, budget and timelines of the team associated activities.

  • Contribute to the project strategy including the evaluation of alternative development scenarios.

  • Provide input into business planning processes to drive value within the portfolio.

  • Oversee and facilitate collaboration with external partners to integrate services, technologies and capabilities.

  • Manage operational aspects of third party alliances ensuring contractual obligations are adhered to.

  • Be involved in project-related commercial licensing/partnering/intellectual property activities.

  • Secure functional resources for the project team.

  • Actively participate in new processes and process improvement initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Project Management function or the R&D division.


Qualifications & Experience:



  • An advanced degree in Life Science or Engineering.

  • PMP certification, Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent would be considered advantageous.

  • 3+ years’ experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry (or where relevant a biomedical research organisation) in drug development.

  • 1+ years’ experience in project management, in initiation, planning, execution, monitor/control and closeout.

  • Experience in the development of immunoglobulins and/or human plasma products would be a strong asset

  • Knowledge in the drug development and manufacturing processes for pharmaceuticals (CMC, Non-Clinical, Clinical, Regulatory Affairs).

  • Experience working in global cross functional project teams in a matrix management environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a positive and constructive attitude and the ability to build effective relationships and teams. Negotiation and influential skills advantageous.

  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively deliver project information and development strategies.

  • An easy and flexible manner when dealing with all levels of management.
