The Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship (RPF) program is aimed at supporting excellent young scientists focusing on collaborative R&D projects between Roche and international academic institutions. Both internal Roche and academic experts will mentor you, and you will be based mainly at the main Roche campus in Basel, Switzerland.

The Position:

We are looking for a Computer Scientist / Machine Learning Researcher / Chemistry Artificial Intelligence Scientist for a postdoctoral project with the goal to develop Machine Learning models to support chemists in the experimental design and ranking of the best reaction conditions to try for new chemical reactions.

The candidate will have a sound understanding of modern machine learning, deep learning, active learning, probabilistic modelling techniques and experimental design. The candidate will ideally have a rigorous foundation in one of these areas, applying those algorithms to the real world related problems. Basic knowledge in chemistry would be a plus. 

You will have several responsibilities:

• Present work internally and at conferences


• Publish work in peer-reviewed journals         


• Ability to work effectively and independently according to time-lines


• Excellent organizational skills, personal initiative and detail oriented


• Good communication and presentation skills, fluent in English

For this position you bring the following qualifications:

• PhD (obtained within the last 4 years) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Applied Statistics, Chemoinformatics or a related technical field with a strong focus on using applied statistics and data science


• Excellent experience in research and development of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Active Learning and Deep Learning models


• Experience with machine learning techniques like matrix capsule networks, extreme gradient boosting, attention models, and active learning


• Experience in building production quality scalable software and platforms in Python, C++, or Java


• Experience in the practical application of pytorch, tensorflow or mxnet


• A creative self-responsible person with great communication skills
