The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) is dedicated to improving the security of states and their people within a framework of democratic governance, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. DCAF contributes to making peace and development more sustainable by assisting partner states and international actors supporting these states, to improve the governance of their security sector through inclusive and participatory reforms. It creates innovative knowledge products, promotes norms and good practices, provides legal and policy advice and supports capacity‐building of both state and non‐state security sector stakeholders. The overall objective of DCAF’s activities in Southeast Europe is to contribute to peace, stability and democracy in the region by supporting good governance in the security and justice sector. For our Southeast Europe Division, we are looking for a motivated and curious individual to be our next:


Project and Admin Assistant – Southeast Europe Division (100 %) – DCAF Branch Office, Skopje


Location: Skopje, Republic of Macedonia


Place of work: DCAF Branch Office, Skopje


Starting date: 15 November 2018 or upon mutual agreement


Duration: 31 December 2020 with possibility of extension


Under the supervision of the National Project Coordinator the incumbent will support the implementation of the multi-donor funded and DCAF-implemented Intelligence Sector Reform Programme in the Republic of Macedonia (2017-2020), which aims to make an effective and sustainable contribution to improved security and intelligence sector accountability and governance.


Tasks and responsibilities:



  •  Perform all financial, administrative and logistics tasks related to the functioning of the DCAF Branch Office, Skopje;

  •  Support Programme team activities in close coordination with the Project Assistant in GVA;

  •  Monitor media and other published reports from relevant institutions;

  •  Perform desk research;

  •  Occasionally translate project related documents and provide oral translation at meetings;

  •  Any other activities related to the Programme implementation;


Requirements:



  •  University degree in a relevant field, such as, economics, law, international relations, conflict resolution, development, security studies, peace studies, or political science;

  •  Fluency in English, both written and spoken is essential;

  •  Prior experience in assisting project management including financial aspects, and the organisation of conferences, workshops and training activities, is an asset;

  •  Prior experience in taking minutes, drafting reports, and correspondence is an asset;

  •  Excellent communication skills (oral and written);

  •  Advanced user of Microsoft Office tools is essential;

  •  Fluency in Macedonian is essential;

  •  Knowledge of Albanian is an asset;

  •  Macedonian citizenship;

  •  Certificate of non-pending cases or convictions in criminal proceedings, not older than 3 months;
