The Assay Development Department in RMD is where an initial product design is developed into an IVD product until it is ready for global registration. Reagent formulations and test methods need to consider manufacturability when they are transferred to Global Operations.
We are seeking a technical project leader and line manager of a group of scientists within the department. The successful candidate will lead projects for the development of PCR-based IVD assays with numerous interfaces to other RMD functions. The line management of laboratory scientists includes people development, mentoring and performance evaluation in alignment with Roche values and Roche leadership commitments.
The advertised position offers:
Project leadership for Assay Development projects
Management of staff, including individual development planning, coaching, goal setting and performance evaluation)
Coordination of tasks with several other departments and functions
Participation in project-relevant decision-making and planning
Development of reagents and transfer to Operations
Assurance of compliance with our internal regulations as well as to guidance by regulatory authorities
Responsibility to maintain the team’s positive culture and a constructive working environment

To be successful in this role (you have to):
Education in natural science (chemistry, biochemistry or related), PhD is a plus
Background in PCR technology, ideally in automated quantitative PCR
Initial experience as a project leader in the IVD environment
Initial experience with people leadership
A structured and focused approach in problem-solving
Ability for pragmatic decisions, out-of-the-box thinking
Good communication skills, especially when presenting to project teams and senior management
Positive and optimistic attitude towards both, project tasks and people management
Fluency in English is mandatory, German is a plus
