Scientist, HTS Screening Support & Compound Logistics Workflow


As a major element of Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (Roche pRED), the Therapeutic Modalities (TMo) function is responsible for creating innovative drug candidates for all Roche pRED Discovery and Translational areas (DTAs), spanning small molecules, biologics and nucleic acid-based therapeutics. As part of TMo, the Chemical Biology (CB) department focuses on the success of Roche’s preclinical pipeline by delivering leading edge science through strong expertise in high-throughput, DNA-encoded and phenotypic cell-based screening platforms, translational protein science, enzymology, biophysics, stem-cell platforms, structural biology, computer-aided drug discovery (CADD) and, finally, compound logistics supporting many of these activities.


In this new position, you will part of the Basel Compound library Enhancement and Logistics team (CLEL), which is the main hub for research compound logistics at Roche pRED.


Your roles and responsibilities will range from the support of daily operations and delivery of plates for screening, as well as automated compound stores oversight, to strategic input into next generation compound logistics workflows. In this regard, it is a particularly exciting time for the CLEL team as we are preparing the transition into our new Basel pRED Center in 2023. This presents a unique opportunity to further develop our capabilities and plan infrastructure and state-of-the-art processes for the future.


More detailed roles and responsibilities:



  • Contribute to the CLEL team technical and scientific expertise by proposing and designing new compound logistics workflows shaping the future vision of compound logistics, compound automated storage solutions and high-throughput liquid handling.

  • Design and maintain informatics protocols for compound management (Titian Mosaic environment) as well as provide expertise and new solutions on compound data administration and informatics infrastructures for compound logistics.

  • Oversee the workflows for production of uHTS screening plates and assays plates for research projects.

  • Collaborate with all key stakeholders within department or across functions and contribute to the CLEL team visibility.


As the ideal candidate, you are highly motivated, possess excellent communication skills, enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams and are fluent in English. You have completed your Ph.D., M.S. or B.S. in chemistry, chemical engineering or related field and bring the following set of skills and expertise:



  • At least 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry or CRO, 10 years for M.S., B.S. candidates.

  • Dynamic scientist with proven track record of implementation and design of compound logistics workflows using automated systems and strong problem-solving abilities.

  • Expert knowledge of compound logistics infrastructure setup and software.

  • Proficient in SQL and JavaScript.

  • Ability to work in fast-paced and demanding environment where efficiency, flexibility are key to success.

  • Good experience in managing functional interfaces and dealing with key stakeholders.
