"About the Role"



The internship is based in Zurich, Switzerland. You will support our Risk Engineering team for the mining and utilities business by analysing losses, updating our equipment database, carrying out Internet and database research, improving our tool for the calculation of loss scenarios and supporting our engineers in their daily activities. We will expect you to contribute by working fulltime for a minimum of 6 to 8 months. The start date would ideally be as soon as possible.



Key tasks and responsibilities for this very exciting position include:


 



  • Loss data analytics and based on the findings depict ways to improve our tools

  • Database research

  • Support the team in different analytic task beside the loss data

  • Improve the MPL (maximum possible loss) tool

  • Craft reports and presentations around the findings and communicate these to project partners

  • Prepare presentations on different technical topics related to Utilities and Mining


 


"About the team"


 


We are a team of 20 Engineers responsible for providing technical advice to property underwriters especially with regards to Swiss Re's mining business (surface/underground & ore/coal mining and processing facilities, smelting/refining) as well as utilities business (combined cycle power plants, conventional steam power plants, hydro electrical plants and renewable energy). We advise our underwriters on risk quality, loss estimates, capacity allocation and loss prevention measures for large mining and utilities accounts.



"About You"


 



  • You have completed your Bachelor or are in your Master studies in natural science (e.g. physics), electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent

  • You provide good technical understanding of power plant technology or related industries

  • You have strong analytical skills and can focus on details without losing track of the bigger picture

  • Being motivated & dedicated, you thrive in an environment where you have room to identify the next step on your own, asking for help actively

  • Very good knowledge of excel, VBA, experience with databases programming

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines

  • Reliable, open-minded, creative and enthusiastic

  • You deliver high quality work also under pressure

  • Excellent oral and written English, other language like German, French are a plus
