Graduate Assistant in Accounting and Control


Job information


Date of start:                  February 1st, 2019 or later in the spring of 2019


Duration of contract:     1 year. This contract is renewable twice for two years. The total maximum duration is 5 years.


Employment rate:           Up to 100% beginning from the 1st year


Work place:                    Lausanne Chamberonne, Anthropole Building

Your responsibilities



  • 50% of the position’s time will be dedicated to the completion of a doctoral thesis in capital markets research in accounting; and

  • 50% of the position’s time will be dedicated to providing teaching and research assistance to the supervisor.

  • Opportunities for a semester abroad can be sought in the later years of the program.


Your qualifications


In order to complete our team, we are looking for someone with the following skills : 



  • Master’s degree (Master of Science) in Accounting or in a related field (e.g., Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations, Computer Science);

  • Fluency in English;

  • Strong interest in archival empirical capital markets research and good quantitative/programming skills; and

  • Eligibility to enter the PhD program of the Faculty of Business and Economics and willingness to complete a doctoral thesis in the area of Accounting.

Information About the Supervisor and Contact for further information


Elizabeth Demers completed her B.A. (Accounting) and M.Acc. degrees at the University of Waterloo (Canada) and her PhD at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business (USA).  She has professional experience in public accounting and as an expert business valuator, and she has served on the faculties of the University of Rochester, INSEAD, the University of Michigan, and the University of Virginia prior to coming to UNIL.  Her research interests include conference calls and investor relations, CSR reporting issues, financial linguistic analysis, and IPOs.  Demers’ research studies have been published in the top academic journals such as the Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Accounting Studies, the Harvard Business Review, and Management Science, and they are also widely cited in the popular financial and business press.
