Mechanic 100%

Inseriert am: 17.01.2019
The
Earth and Planetary Magnetism group at the
Institute of Geophysics at
ETH Zurich studies planetary magnetism with a strong focus on the Earth. Part of our group is devoted to the mechanisms underlying the generation and evolution of the magnetic field of a planet following theoretical, numerical and experimental approaches. In this context, we have developed a laboratory setup capable of reproducing some of the fundamental ingredients that govern the physics in the molten core of a planet, in particular strong rotational and magnetic forces. This is achieved by using liquid sodium enclosed in a rapidly rotating titanium container subject to a strong magnetic field. The device is fully engineered and currently under assembly.Mechanic
To complete the construction of this cutting edge apparatus the EPM group invites applications for a mechanic. The primary role of the candidate will be to complete the construction of the aforementioned apparatus. It includes, checking the drawings done by the engineers, machining small parts using CNC and traditional machines in house, or you independently look for a potential third party supplier, get a quote, negotiate the order and manage the whole process. You will be responsible for ordering laboratory supply related to this project and to the general activities of the lab. The team is formed by an electronics engineer, permanent scientists, Phd students and post-docs. The common working language in the team is English.
The successful candidate must have a knowledge in CAD software, preferentially CATIA, knowledge in CNC machining as well as traditional machining. You have proven organizational skills and experience in the planning of tasks. You have basic knowledge in electricity.
