Empa - the place where innovation starts

Empa is the research institute for materials science and technology of the ETH Domain and conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of industry and the well-being of society. The Urban Energy Systems Laboratory develops methods and tools to model, design and assessment building and urban systems with focus on energy hubs, multi-energy grids, and integration of renewable energy and storage systems. To strengthen our scientific team we are looking for aPostdoc or Scientist in urban energy system modelling and optimization
We are looking for a candidate who is motivated to work on the advancement of methods to simulate, design, optimize and assess urban energy systems and to compare such systems to existing technologies and to other energy strategies. Energy-related urban simulation tools are being developed, considering the interactions between energy generation, conversion and storage, using dynamic simulation models and co-simulation techniques. Existing and new simulation methods and models will be combined and applied to new problems for groups of buildings and at urban and higher scales, linking different disciplines such as buildings and mobility. The candidate for this position shall translate his/her research ideas into projects, in close collaboration with our interdisciplinary team and our external scientific and industry partners.

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated candidate with a PhD in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical engineering (or related). Candidates should have profound and interdisciplinary knowledge in building and energy systems optimization, simulation modelling, geographical information systems, and experience with energy and building technology. A good research and publication record is essential. Additionally, experience with the development, acquisition and management of research projects is desirable. The candidate should be proficient in English; basic comprehension and oral skills in German are desirable.
