The Swiss Seismological Service (SED) at ETH Zurich is responsible for seismic monitoring in Switzerland, for earthquake alerting as well as assessment and fundamentals for the mitigation of seismic hazard and risk. We develop hazard and risk models, and a risk assessment platform scaling from local/short term drill site monitoring over the country level to to the continental scale as part of the European Facilities for Earthquake Hazard & Risk (EFEHR). In this field, we are looking for an enthusiasticSoftware developer (80-100%) Core tasks are the technical design, implementation and rollout of a controlled platform for reproducible Earthquake hazard & risk assessment, as well as a web service infrastructure providing access to the results. The position allows to develop into web service infrastructures, cluster computing, database-powered configuration & job tracking, and management of large quantities of parametric hazard data. A successful candidate should have a degree in natural science, with proven working experience as an IT developer, or a degree in computer sciences and some background and a strong interest in natural science. Good knowledge of at least two higher programming languages, including python, and experience with XML technology, SQL databases in a Linux- and FOSS-based environment will qualify you for this position. Experience with scientific data processing, hazard & risk assessment especially in the OpenQuake ecosystem, and/or an interest in related scientific use cases are a strong asset.
