Job Description Summary


F or DPS (Drug Product Services) in Basel Switzerland, we have a new opportunity for a Principal Scientist,Primary Packaging and Device Testing responsible to l ead the Primary Packaging and Device Verification Testing Group and to provide analytical support to all projects in DPS, as well as stand-alone external services.


Key Accountabilities and Duties:



  • Establish Drug Product analytical primary packaging testing strategy,  infrastructure and services for biologics, small molecule and peptide parenteral products for clinical and commercial products

  • Supervise the installation, qualification and maintenance of all instruments for DP primary packaging and device testing in close alignment with current best practices and regulations

  • Lead and manage a group of staff including lab scientists. Ensure effective use of resources (time, personnel, equipment, material, rooms), maintenance of equipment, order and safety and health protection and following lab and safety instructions and guidance and all cGMP regulations.

  • Ensure the proper maintenance and qualification of equipment, safety and health protection following lab and safety instructions and all cGMP regulations

  • Enable innovation and technical strategy projects, generate IP and contribute to scientific publications and conference talks, and evaluate and implement of new methods and technologies, as required

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications and skills required: ​



  • A degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related field

  • > 4 years working experience in the field of primary packaging

  • Excellent working knowledge in all relevant analytical techniques, including Container Closure Integrity, Device functionality testing including break-loose and glide-force, RNS removal and related  

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent reporting, scientific skills and ability to interpret complex analytical data

  • Excellent supervisory skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Detail oriented

  • Good inter-personal skills

  • Enthusiastic and open-minded

  • Willingness to learn and carry out new and complex tasks

  • Proactive attitude

  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English
