Purpose of the role is to lead the development and execution of the reimbursement and health economic strategies to secure optimal reimbursement and funding for designated Structural Heart (SH) products and to support the establishment of these therapies, in particular transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), as the “standard of care” within key markets in EMEA.
The Reimbursement Manager will work as a partner to Medtronic’s businesses in developing clinical and economic evidence, health economic evaluations, value propositions, and customer-facing economic tools. This role will forge close, cross-functional working relationships with reimbursement, marketing, clinical affairs, government affairs, pricing and other functions across the business. Working collaboratively, the Reimbursement Manager will facilitate the understanding and prioritization of market access needs across EMEA countries, develop appropriate health economic tools or value propositions to address those needs, and direct both in-house and outsourced execution of those plans. To achieve these goals, he/she will develop a deep understanding of company products, country-specific issues, policy impacts, and the types of evidence that are appropriate for supporting business unit and regional priorities.
A Day in the Life
Deliver relevant evidence and tools to meet EMEA countries’ HTA (Health Technology Assessment), reimbursement and funding needs, to expand market access of TAVI and other structural heart products in EMEA.
· Use your specialist knowledge of health economic and outcomes research (HEOR) methodologies to optimize Health Technology Assessments (HTA), Reimbursement applications, Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRG) funding mechanisms, Value Based HealthCare (VBHC) programs including risk sharing contracts, and Hospital- or Payer-level business cases
· Provide input to evidence development plans including input to clinical study design, including measurement of healthcare utilization and patient reported outcomes / quality of life, and analysis of real-world healthcare administrative datasets or registries.
· Execute health economic projects including cost-effectiveness, cost-utility, cost-of-illness analyses and budget impact analyses to support market access strategies
· Develop product value stories and deliver regional value dossiers for effective and timely use in EMEA countries
· Analyze and communicate clinical & economic evidence to target audiences within the region, including publication of research findings
· Be an internal expert on reimbursement of structural heart products and identify risks and opportunities for business planning processes
· Represent Reimbursement and Health Economics at external meetings
· Provide therapy specific and general reimbursement/HE education and training to key internal and external audiences within region
Expected travel: approximately 20% of regular working time
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
· Postgraduate degree (MS, MPH, MPP, MBA, PhD or MD) in Economics, Health Economics, Life Sciences, Health Policy or related field required
· 7+ years market access experience for medical devices or pharmaceutical products (reimbursement, health economics, HTA and funding applications)
· 7+ years’ experience in health economics, outcomes research or medical device technology assessment with a track record of successful reimbursement and funding applications in the health care environment
· Good knowledge of the application, development and review of health economic models
· Experience in conducting outcomes research projects and developing value propositions
· Good knowledge of reimbursement systems in Europe
· Fluent in English
· Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work across cultures, strong project management skills, results orientation, quality orientation
