As a valued partner for effective decision-making, project, and clinical study execution, the Strategy Portfolio & Clinical Operations Function (SP&CO) maximizes Pharma Research and Early Development’s (pRED) portfolio value by enabling teams to progress projects efficiently & effectively, providing objective analysis and strategic context and by executing the clinical studies that bring medicine to patients
 

The Position

The primary responsibility of the Head of Operations & Communication for SP&CO is to act as a thought partner to the Head of SP&CO and provide support on a wide variety of organizational and strategic matters through management of a small but impactful team. You will play a central role in management and operations, with oversight of functional communications for SP&CO and on pRED portfolio presentations to Roche Senior Management. As Head of Operation & Communication you will be a member of the SP&CO Leadership Team and report directly to the Head of SP&CO.

In this role, your main accountabilities are:

• As member of the Leadership Team contribute to the development of the long-term vision and strategy for the SP&CO function and make sure that the strategy is effectively communicated and translated into operational tactics


• Ensure effective operations of the SP&CO function, working closely with our Finance, HR and Communications Business Partners


• Lead your team and assist with special projects and global initiatives, as assigned by the Head of SP&CO


• Organize, run and facilitate SP&CO leadership team meetings and agenda and follow-up on action items


• Briefing and preparation of the Head of SP&CO for important meetings and preparation of presentations


• Coordinate annual goal setting process for non-portfolio goals and monitor and follow-through making sure that objectives are met
   

Who you are

You have a PhD in life sciences relevant to biomedical research, drug discovery and development and/or strong business and organizational acumen supported by at least 8 years of experience in drug development in Pharma or Biotech.

You have worked in matrix organizations and proven your understanding of the business context of drug discovery & development (general business processes as well as market/external forces) is required to be successful in this role.

• Understanding of the relevant business context of drug discovery and development (general business processes as well as market/external forces)


• Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, e.g. demonstrated in project management role or similar


• Capability of processing scientific and complex technical information for the head of SP&CO, providing executive summaries and preliminary analysis


• High sensitivity to the importance of stakeholder communication in a matrix organization, and proactively ensure that appropriate team members are updated, consulted, and involved


• Highly effective communication in English is required, good command of German language is welcome


• High energy level and ability to interface effectively, productively and constructively with a diversity of colleagues, partners, stakeholders and collaborators


• High flexibility and sense of urgency
