The Position


Roche Centralised and Point of Care Solutions (CPS) provide integrated Cobas branded solutions for blood testing in commercial and hospital labs, medical centers and laboratory networks. Our products and solutions support health care professionals in clinical decision making in a wide field of indications including, cardiovascular, coagulation, hematology, infectious diseases, metabolism, oncology and women’s health.


CPS Business Development New Platforms identifies and drives access to external innovation. The Business Development Team manages business assessment projects applying the Want-Find-Get-Manage principle to extend the product portfolio in both Franchises and in Digital Health Solutions.


The advertised position offers:



  • Identify new business opportunities or detail local and global product portfolio gaps for Roche Centralized and Point of Care Solutions (CPS), assess their business & market potential, develop recommendations for their implementation and drive decisions for acceptance of recommendations across CPS functions, involving global functions, if necessary


  • Identify and assess potential partnering targets incl. M&A targets


  • Negotiate complex contractual frameworks for new strategic partners across all relevant functions


  • Participate in due diligence process by actively driving cross-work stream alignment within CPS, or cross-BA if necessary


  • Establish business relationships and smoothly hand-over to Franchises or DHS Team and Lifecycle Team, respectively as soon as routine is achieved

To be successful in this role (you have to):



  • Masters degree in Business Administration and/or Engineering, Biotechnology, Biology or IT is required, MBA and PhD in the relevant area are a plus


  • Strategic, yet detail-oriented, and able to think across disciplines to inject a degree of business rigour and consistency in performance and results


  • Significant experience in the diagnostic, pharmaceutical, medtech or IT industry (ideally 10-15 years) with at least 5 or more year’s work experience business development and strategy, licensing, M&A or JV creation, strategic planning and/or commercial functions; multi-disciplinary and working in a matrix organization experience is a plus


  • Good understanding of global business incl. financial, contractual and commercial disciplines and ability to guide/partner with external stakeholders in assessing external innovations, translate complex contract terms and conditions into strategic and operational elements for both internal and external stakeholders


  • Excellent negotiation, argumentation and analytical skills paired with consensus building and conflict management in challenging or difficult situations


  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills to internal senior leadership as well as CEOs and senior executives of external diagnostics, medtech, IT  or pharma companies


  • Strong project management capabilities and team leadership skills to deliver within timeline and budget constraints
