Senior Researcher and Expert Group Coordinator 25-50 %
"Science communication" – encompassing not only STEM subjects, but also humanities and arts – has received more attention from academia, (science) politics and society in recent years. But the science communication landscape is changing, creating new challenges: First, journalistic media have come under pressure. This is intertwined with, second, the emergence and growth of digital media which provide new affordances for communication. Third, the decline of journalistic media and the rise of online media have furthered a pluralization of science communication.
The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences will establish an expert group to assess the status quo of science communication in Switzerland, to identify questions that need further analysis and to develop scenarios to improve science communication. Group members have expertise immediately relevant to science communication in Switzerland. They are science communication researchers, scientists representing different scientific disciplines as well as communicators and stakeholders.
The group is headed by Prof. Dr. Mike S. Schäfer from the University of Zurich.
