Corporate Accounting & Finance Development Manager

Job Description


The position reports to the Vice President Finance and manages a team of five. Three accountants : one Financial Accountant, one Senior Corporate Accounting Analyst and one Junior Corporate Accounting Analyst, the Finance Project Manager and the Contract and Financial Development Controller. The scope of activities include consolidation, statutory accounts, tax, regulatory reporting, accounting standards, and financial development.

The role interacts regularly with other teams in Finance (Reporting, Trading Control/ Accounting) and other departments (notably Legal, Middle Office, Traders and Trading management) as well as with senior management, external auditors, Branch and Group Consolidation department.

Under the authority of the Deputy Vice President Finance, the Corporate Accounting Manager holds direct responsibility for:
Ensuring the correct representation of Trading (plus Marketing) operations in the financial statements, disclosures and statutory returns in compliance with local and international accounting standards, as well as local tax laws.
 
Team management :  
-Ensure the team is resourced and equipped with the appropriate mix of skills and profiles to guarantee timely and high quality delivery offinancial statements, disclosures and returns.
- Organise the team and delegate responsibility appropriately. 
- Oversee development and training of team.
- Ensure good coordination and communication with other teams and stakeholders on whom success depends (Local management, Branch and Group management, Trading management, Middle and Back Office, Trading Control, external and internal auditors)
 
Financial Development:
Oversee the function responsible for maintaining a strong following of the latest new business being created by the trading desks. Ensuring that the trading floor and senior management understand the financial, accounting and tax implications of new business/contracts, in particular providing assistance when drafting new contracts, building new activities, while liaising with the appropriate expertise within the Finance teams of the company, branch and the Group.
 
Project Management:
Oversee the Finance Project Manager who is responsible for supporting and developing the functions processes, controls and system development.
 
Quarterly Group financial statements and disclosures : 
- Oversee timely and accurate production and submission of quarterly and annual financial statements and disclosures, for both group consolidation and local statutory accounts.
- Anticipate and respond to financial implications of business developments and new activities.
- Respond to developments in accounting standards, laws and regulatory reporting; liaising with branch technical experts and auditors where necessary.
 
- Ensure Group consolidation standards / IFRS are appropriately implemented and accounting policies amended when required forTGPL and other Midstream affiliates under UK company law requirements and Swiss regulations. In particular IFRS 13 Financial Valuation, IFRS 9 Disclosures, and IFRS 16 Lease accounting in the context of commodity trading.

- Coordinate and lead annual statutory audit. Coordinate with other departments (notably Middle Office). Follow up on auditors questions and relay audit points back to management for resolution.
 
-Lead quarterly group audit.
 
Regulatory reporting: 
-Ensure all regulatory reports that fall under TGPL as per UK, Swiss and other European requirements are computed accurately and submitted on time. Coordinate with Legal and Traders when necessary.
 
Tax reporting/compliance:  
- Oversee/lead tax reporting and compliance (direct) and ensure correct representations of current and deferred tax and reconciliation of tax provisions. Provide information to support the completion of the direct tax filing in liaison with group and external advisors. Follow up on any outstanding issues or enquiries as appropriate.



  • Assist the VP and Deputy Vice President Finance with tax projects in conjunction with local and group tax departments
