Dry Bulk Trading Operator - Maternity Cover

Job Description


The jobholder is the key interface between the Dry Bulk Trading Desk, the Chartering Desk, the Shipping Operations Desk, the Back-Office and the Finance & Legal departments to operate the negotiated contracts of the highly valuable physical sulphur, petcoke and coal cargoes traded by the Company. The job comprises of:



  • Interactions with a great variety of worldwide interlocutors, both internal and external, in an international/multicultural surrounding (mainly focused on the Atlantic region, Europe, Africa, Middle-East and India)

  • Important financial involvement (more than 100 cargoes per year – value 5 to 16 million USD each), with Legal/Contractual impact (executing approx. 200 transactions per year, related to above cargoes)

  • Significant role in the payment process (verifying & handling about 35 payment guarantees per year & approving invoices of all above mentioned transactions)

  • Best possible optimisation of the trading profit

  • Operate the trading contracts. Ensuring continuous liaison with suppliers, receivers, traders and, when in-house chartered vessels, charterers & shipping operations (by receiving and issuing documentary and loading instructions & voyage orders, handling B/L’s & shipping documents, etc…) in order to have the cargo delivered to/by TGPL from the supplier/to the receiver in the most possible efficient way (in view of economics and under market/physical constraints)

  • Select and nominate Independent Surveyors at the loading and/or discharging terminals, wherever applicable and/or the jobholder deems necessary (possibly also by appointing protective agents), and to verify, analyse and compare the reports aiming to optimize the quantity & quality discrepancies between purchases and sales, hence ultimately increase the income of the Company

  • Conduct vessel vetting process, when required by internal HSE policy

  • Participate, in association with the traders, to the regular delivery programme discussions with suppliers and receivers, aiming at the perfect match between supplies and demand

  • Communicate frequently with loading and discharging terminal superintendents (or suppliers and receivers trading operators), to protect the Company’s interest in the execution of each programme. Constantly coordinate with finance (L/C’s and other payment guarantee), middle and back office (invoices). By permanently keeping a close watch on the situation, payment risks and treasury exposure are minimized

  • Calculate demurrage or despatch for each cargo. Following up and defending said claims toward the counterparties in case of disagreement

  • Thoroughly check and apply the various deadlines / time-bars, using an electronic reminder, in order to perform requested tasks in a timely manner. Failure to do so could lead to high extra costs

  • Create a very trustful and fruitful cooperation with terminals/suppliers and customers correspondents, providing a real additional value for the traders by doing so

  • Precisely and carefully record and capture the requested data of the activities in the various internal systems in order to maintain accurate files in view of follow-up, archiving and audit purposes and participate in the development of the new operational software, cooperating with IT department, which will result in a better integrated system

  • Regularly liaising with Middle Office regarding the P&L impacts caused by operational changes

  • Covering the cargoes handled by the Singapore based Trading Operator during their annual leave periods, missions, planned and unplanned absence

  • Shipping Operator cover during their annual leave periods, missions, planned and unplanned absence:

    • Execute the charter and spot/voyage & COA charter-parties

    • Liaise between ship owners/brokers, agent and l trading operations

    • Participate in an out of hours emergency contact rota whereby the jobholder is one of 5/6 employees taking it in turn to be the emergency contact for the week, thereby ensuring the emergency line is diverted to their mobile and they are able to take a call at anytime
