As an Engineer - Software Defined Networking, you will work with a world class team developing and deploying new technologies on a cutting-edge network. The Viasat terrestrial network is comprised of a global complex Transport network of private and public high capacity core nodes, multi-tenant residential and mobile applications, requiring you to develop in the world of SDN, NFV and Network Virtualization. You will assist with the design, development, and deployment of new and innovative technology into a service provider network. Viasat’s unique position as a service provider and equipment manufacturer allows you to experience the whole life cycle of networking software development – all the way from design to deployment. You will work with other engineers to aid in deployment, documentation, validation, and test execution, to ensure deployed networks meet design and client needs. Requirements:
Strong hands on technical knowledge of network components
Experience with network management systems and network automation
Strong knowledge of the physical, data-link, network, transport and application layer protocols as they apply to integration of independent Network, software, and hardware systems
Solid understanding of IPv4/v6 routing and switching, advanced network communication protocols such as BGP, MPLS, GRE, VxLAN, EVPN, IPSec, VPN, Multicast, and Routing
Automation experience with scripting languages
Strong knowledge of Juniper, Arista, Cisco, and Fortinet Network gear
Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for the design, implementation, and deployment of networking systems.
Working knowledge of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) platform environments
Bachelor degree in Engineering, Information Technology or a related field of study required
Preferences:
Familiarity with cloud services – IaaS, PaaS, AWS & Google Cloud
Experience with continuous integration & delivery and DevOps methodologies
Software Defined Network Engineering experience with software development capability using Python, Ansible, or Go
Juniper, Arista or Cisco certifications
Proficient in software development tools, source code control environment
Master's Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
