Assistant Manager, Aviation Environment

Narrative Description


Reporting to the Assistant Director, Aviation Environment, the incumbent will contribute to a major advocacy and communications campaign (the Campaign) that IATA is launching to improve understanding by governments, key decision-makers, decision influencers, key stakeholders and the flying public, of the aviation industry’s response to climate change. The ultimate aim is to improve the public policy environment to support aviation in achieving its sustainability goals. The incumbent will have a secondary reporting line to the Vice President, Corporate Communications.
Top responsibilities include analyzing how the environment issue is evolving, finding facts and figures to support industry positions on environment, analysis of Campaign public opinion research, media and social media analysis. This will be achieved directly and with the support of external agency support.
The Campaign, while global, will have an immediate focus on Europe. It will have a small dedicated team and access to the full spectrum of IATA’s overall capabilities. The Campaign is planned to start immediately and conclude by the end of 2022.


Responsibilities



  • Working with external agency resources to support the Campaign by monitoring and analyzing how the environment issue is evolving for the aviation industry and more broadly.

  • Information management: develop, maintain and evolve a database of facts, figures and talking points to support industry argumentation on aviation and environment issues.

  • Be the focal point for interaction with external agency resources for public opinion research

  • Interface with external agency resources to monitor, analyze and report on the evolution of social media sentiment on aviation and environment

  • Contribute to the strategic development and delivery of the overall Campaign as required.


Qualifications and Skills



  • University degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience, ideally in research to support communications and/or campaigning

  • Fast and detail-oriented with very well--developed organizational, interpersonal, cross-cultural, stakeholder management, presentation and communications skills

  • Expert knowledge of statistical analysis and information management

  • Knowledge or experience of the aviation industry, the European political scene, media/social media, and environment issues will be assets

  • Ability to work in high pressure situations and with tight deadlines is essential

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English, additional languages an asset
