The Institute of Applied Information Technology successfully conducts deep learning research, with numerous multi-year research projects on the applicability of deep learning in supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning settings to use cases in industry, business and health so far. Currently, a number of PhD students, senior researchers and faculty is working on projects in document recognition (tiny object detection), medical imaging (4D unsupervised denoising), food waste analysis (semantic segmentation) or logistics (multi-agent deep RL), often in collaboration with adjacent research groups with the ZHAW Datalab (www.zhaw.ch/datalab).
Within this Research Group Information Engineering of the Institute of Applied Information Technology and in the context of the abovementioned projects, we are looking for a mature and excellent candidate as:Experienced Researcher Applied Deep Learning (Information Engineering Group) (100 %)Your responsibilities:
Researching: You ideate novel solutions and implement and evaluate them efficiently
Productizing: You give the final touch to research prototypes for successful tech transfer
Disseminating: You mediate your results in papers, talks, seminars, events, and mentor younger researchers
The successful candidate has finished a Master’s and ideally PhD degree in computer science or a related field. He or she must have demonstrated at least 3-year experience in developing solutions with deep neural networks, as well as an excellent command and a passion for software development in Python using TensorFlow and/or PyTorch. This enables the candidate to work hands-on in research projects with focus on successfully balancing scientific novelty and industrial applicability; and to take the lead in work packages of projects and proposals, mentoring younger colleagues and students on the go. The ideal candidate is inclined to devote a smaller part of his or her time to other aspects of work in applied science, e.g. in education, event organization, or representing the team at national and international venues. We thus expect very good written and oral communication skills in English and in German.

The candidate will have the opportunity to establish partnerships with industrial partners, acquire funding for collaborative research, and to devise and transfer research solutions to enterprise contexts.
