Your mission :

The EPFL Blue Brain Project (BBP), situated on the Campus Biotech in Geneva, Switzerland, applies advanced neuroinformatics, data analytics, high-performance computing and simulation-based approaches to the challenge of understanding the structure and function of the mammalian brain in health and disease. The BBP provides the community with regular releases of data, models and tools to accelerate neuroscience discovery and clinical translation through open science and global collaboration.To strengthen its Data and Knowledge Engineering team BBP is looking for a:
Semantic Web Specialist / Knowledge Engineer (W/M)
Main duties and responsibilities include :



  • Develop data and knowledge structures for improving data integration and accessibility as well as enabling automated reasoning and inference within the knowledge graph

  • Analyze and process graph data structures and content to design and implement semantic data indexing and search strategies

  • Develop and maintain microservices to access data within the knowledge graph,

  • Develop pipeline to semantically represent in the knowledge graph data from different sources and various formats.

  • Implement best-practices for building and documenting ontologies,

  • Implement best-practices for maintainable software development, including but not limited to: continuous integration, build, release, deployment process, managing services in various environments, documentation, adherence to and improvement of coding standards.


Your profile :




Experience and preferred skills:



  • Strong experience in Semantic web technologies and formats (at least: RDF, OWL, SPARQL)

  • Experience in building Linked Data platform and knowledge graphs,

  • Experience with at least one framework for building semantic web applications: Jena, OWL API, RDFLib, ...

  • Experience with at least one triple store: (Blazegraph, Virtuoso...),

  • Experience with at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Java, Scala,

  • Experience with NoSQL and/or RDBMS systems,

  • Agile software development, unit and integration testing.



Experience in any of the following areas would be a plus:




  • Distributed systems,

  • Lucene based search engines (ElasticSearch, Solr),

  • Graph algorithms,

  • Scripting languages (Python, Bash),

  • Scala/Java frameworks (Akka toolkit, Spring, Hibernate, RabbitMQ),

  • DevOps technologies (Docker, OpenShift, OpenStack, Jenkins),

  • Scalable data analytics technologies (Spark).


Profile:



  • Master degree in software engineering or equivalent,

  • At least 3 years’ experience of software development and/or knowledge engineering,

  • English written and spoken. French would be a plus.
