Role Purpose: 

  • As a therapy expert in the field of cardiovascular surgery, MSL Manager is responsible for engaging with the wider surgical and medical community and serving as a scientific resource to interact, advise, support and help at disseminating scientific data on upcoming advances and current uses of technologies and devices provided by Edwards Lifesciences

IIT/IIS  program and related scientific communicationprogram management

  • Visits on a regular basis a small group (20 to 30) of key hospitals and customers with whom Edwards has preferred scientific relationship.

  • Maintain with this core group of KOLs and key customers, the highest possible level of confidence and mutual trust. Make them feel they have privileged access to all kind of Edwards scientific data and serve as a “go-betweener” when they have specific IIT  or research project to discuss with internal R&D, clinical or medical affairs team within Edwards.

  • Share recent available scientific information and engage discussion on publication/communication opportunities related to IITs or Edwards devices within these centers.

  • Work in close relationship with Medical Affairs Scientific Communication Manager to prioritize abstract submission and peer-reviewed journals where to submit research

  • Assess feasibility and serves as the primary liaison between investigator and Edwards surgical team for unsolicited Investigator-Initiated Studies (IIS) from inception to publication

  • Assists the investigators in trial initiation, implementation and follow-up

  • Discuss with MSL senior manager and other Medical Affairs stakeholders on existing opportunities for future IITs and this based on his/her understanding of the center activities as reported by commercial teams 

  • Support the preparation of weekly/monthly reports, enrollment/progress reports


General responsibilities

  • Provide support to the training manager to train sales, marketing and medical affairs teams as per plan

  • Act as a key contact person for clinical safety and quality teams while managing complaint report from centers.

  • Makes himself/herself for center visit together with the safety team whereas appropriate – ensure the connection with the sales teams. 

  • Serve as a trustable resource to support professional education team at implementing local educational programs for customers; in particular he/she should be able to activate his/her network of KOLs and key customers to be involved as speakers in these programs

  • Under the leadership of the Professional Education Sr Manager, the MSL Manager acts as a key stakeholder in the management of KOL across the region   


Market and scientific intelligence

  • Through his/her network of key hospitals, customers and KOLs, the MSL manager is aware  and continuously track what is happening in the field of cardiovascular surgery and in particular he/she should be on the edge when it comes to: forthcoming important publication/congress abstract; study results when available, new technical trends, people news…

  • This important part of his/her duty requires an unsurpassed level of business ethics and ability to deal with confidentiality in all circumstances.

  • Supports the Sr Manager MSL and the Scientific Communication Manager at preparing for scientific exchange meetings and data dissemination (e.g. Advisory boards, IIT investigator meetings), as needed 


Own education – conference follow-up

  • To maintain high level of expertise and related credibility, the MSL manager will keep abreast of scientific advancement in his/her therapeutic field.

  • Depending on his/her initial scientific level, it might be decided together with the senior manager MSL, that the incumbent may receive an intensive training on all or part of cardiology and scientific related fields.

  • It is highly recommended that the MSL Manager becomes a member of related professional bodies such as MSL Association or Society


Other incidental duties

  • Provide clinical training, guidance and services to internal sales forces as per needs. Required Education/Skills/Experience:  

    • Advanced degree such as MD, PharmD or PhD in a research science is preferred. 

    • Alternatively, RN (Registered Nurse) or Scrub Nurse who acquired several years of experience in the field of cardiac surgery and who has interest for science.

    • Potentially, a medical device or pharma industry seasoned professional with a sound track record of successes in a customer facing position with interest into science could be considered. Decision may depend on candidate ability to effectively master the science.

    • 5-10 years of experience in Medical Device and/or Pharma Industry and/or CRO

    • Mastering cardiac surgery field and related therapeutic offer

    • Ability to understand, process, communicate and present scientific information to a high standard

    • Passion for cardiology, excellent interpersonal skills

    • Self-driven, able to manage workload, well organized, autonomous, motivated and committed

    • Strong influencing, networking and communication skills and a proven track record of cross-functional team working

    • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt priorities according to strategic needs

    • Computer skills – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Internet

    • Willing to travel up to 80%, mainly EU countries

    • Fluent in English, each additional European language is a plus with preference for German, or French
