We have an exciting job opportunity at our location in Haarlem and are looking to hire an Improvement Engineer


Purpose of the Job


This is an exciting opportunity in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment for a front-line professional and problem solver, supporting the continuous improvement activities of the site.  You will work closely with the operations and maintenance personnel toimprove quality, factory safety service and financials; as well as assisting with activities associates to the strategy and goals. 


This autonomous role allows you to apply your engineering knowledge and experience coordinating departmental or cross-functional teams using lean tools. You will monitor projects from initiation through delivery including planning and directing schedules and monitor financials. You will report directly to the Executive Director Quality Operations and be part of the management team. You will be responsible for managing and leading continuous improvement projects, as well as mentoring and coaching green belts.


Main responsibilities


You must be comfortable working with all levels within the organization providing support, understanding, and sustained solutions to institute clear and consistent processes, be able to question the status quo and be a strong communicator. You will be responsible for managing and leading continuous improvement projects.  This is an autonomous role and you need to be able to gather information from multiple sources to develop a clear path towards improving efficiencies.



  • You’re a change manager: Ability to drive a problem-solving mindset at all levels of the organization and able to influence and move toward a common vision or goal.

  • You’re a sparring partner: Ability to partner with the management team about the strategy but also act hands on and level with the shop floor.

  • You’re a data cruncher and story teller: Coordinate and cooperate with divers teams using  different data sets to ensure that sustained solutions are implemented.

The Quality Operations department (150 employees) is responsible for checking, releasing the products, testing the incoming packaging materials, products and raw materials. Besides this ensuring the regulatory compliance of the products to be packaged and managing the quality policy, in accordance with existing legislation, regulations and corporate policy documents.


Haarlem is the most flexible packaging site and medicines and vaccines to more than 140 countries worldwide. Future growth of the Haarlem site is upcoming with the increasing market demand plus upcoming Brexit will also add additional control and release activities. All international packaging for our own production sites and CMO’s is centralized in Haarlem, resulting in an expansion of the Quality organization and its QC labs.


Your profile



  • Bachelor’s / Master Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or a related field)

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant working experience;

  • Experience with quality control or quality assurance within the pharmaceutical industry is preferred

  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification and strong LEAN Manufacturing expertise

  • Business Owner Mindset and strong financial acumen skills to accelerate profitability and low cost service of the facility.

  • Proven track record in leading high performance teams and attaining results; able to quantify results
