An intern opportunity for 6 months from (June 15 2020 to Dec 15, 2020) with the WHO-WMO Joint Office for Climate and Health will offer a learning opportunity to collaborate with international experts in climate and health, particularly related to science communication, technical publication development and engagement. Key activities will include:
1. Development of Climate and Health Science Portal
Contribute to development and launch of an online technical platform for climate and health science and services. Sections will present resources on the use of climate and epidemiological research and decision relevant information for climate risk management; promoting WMO Member capacity to provide integrated health information services and capacities; and key metrics for measuring adaptation progress. Tasks may include: technical writing of resource pages on climate-sensitive diseases identification of technical information, relevant data, models, and resources per disease; curating scientific information for researchers, professionals, and lay audiences; gather appropriate content for consideration for inclusion in the portal library; curation of sections on climate information for public health training; selecting appropriate facts, graphs, and tables from existing materials.
Regular coordination and communication with the portal project manager. Support project manager to conduct peer review process with subject matter experts reviewers and members of the editorial board for quality control and approval of content before publication. Support preparations for the public launch event and demonstrations of the online platform in November 2020.
2. Support Technical Activities and Events in support of health sector adaptation to extreme heat.
Support the programme committee for the 2nd Global Forum for Heat and Health to keep track of agenda and presenter changes, follow up on committee decisions, support organization of poster sessions and technical side events, and preparation for master class training sessions. Support the chair of a new publication writing team to develop technical guidance on extreme heat early warning systems, by communicating with authors, convening teleconferences, and supporting the process with minutes and follow-up.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Enrolled in the final year of a Master's programme or completed Master's degree in public health, medicine, or physical or biological sciences
Experience
Relevant working experience of one year could be considered an advantage
Other requirements
Required
Technical knowledge on the impact pathways of climate on health outcomes, and preferably strong understanding of research methods;
Technical knowledge of climate adaptation and decision-needs for climate adaptation in the health sector, across areas of communicable and non-communicable disease control, emergency management, and public health prevention programs;
Contextual knowledge of environmental health risks, including in relation to climate change;
Contextual knowledge of humanitarian and development issues and programming
strong writing skills
excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and
ability to work in international settings.

Self-motivated, responsive to feedback, demonstrated capacity to deliver on-time
Languages
Expert knowledge in reading, writing and speaking English. Knowledge of another UN language an advantage.
