The BIS is currently recruiting for the position of Legal Counsel. We are interested in meeting candidates with at least five years of relevant work experience. You will join a small group of lawyers responsible for advising on a large variety of legal issues relating to the Bank’s operations and governance. This will include advising on the Bank’s status as an international organisation and its privileges and immunities, its relationship with Switzerland as its host country, certain banking operations conducted by the Bank and employment-related matters, as well as, a wide range of contractual issues with suppliers and other third parties. You have a master’s level law degree or equivalent from a recognised university and have worked in a top law firm or in the legal department of a large corporate, an international organisation or a central bank. You have excellent spoken and written English language skills. Knowledge of German or French languages would be an advantage. All new staff members are recruited on a fixed-term basis without expectation either of any contract renewal or conversion. The contract may however be extended or converted to an open-ended one at the end of the term, subject to organisational needs and individual performance.
