Communication Intern

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is an ecumenical fellowship of churches founded in 1948.  It brings together 350 member churches from all over the world, including Orthodox churches, Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran and Reformed denominations, to promote Christian unity in faith, witness and service for a just and peaceful world.


From its headquarters at the Ecumenical Centre in Grand-Saconnex, a unique space for its member churches, the WCC conducts its work together with churches and ecumenical partners. Activities include promoting peace and justice in places of conflict; inter-religious dialogue with people of other faiths; and ecumenical education.


The WCC is looking for a Communication intern at 60-100%(6 months) who will be working to enhance preservation and access for WCC archives and who will be supporting the organization of events and visits at the WCC.  Reporting to the director of communications, the successful candidate will be able to provide communication support for the WCC Communication Team.


During the assignment, the candidate will have the opportunity to gain practical experience and expertise in Marketing and different areas of communication work, more specifically in promotion and archives.


Fluent in French and having very good English skills, the communications intern will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisation skills.  The successful candidate will have responsibility for:


Archives:



  • Arrangement and description (sorting out, material preservation and boxing, classification and description in the archives database scopeArchiv) of various untreated material, as assigned by the archivist.

  • Checking WCC deposit collection for completeness and cataloguing of so far missing items in RERO catalog.

  • Working on various tools in order to enhance retrieval of archival and library resources in storage locations at the Ecumenical Centre.

  • Optimization of storage conditions.

  • Current tasks of archival and library services (replying user requests, archival search, copying, assistance to researchers on site) and further administrative work and duties assigned by the archivist and/or the librarian.


Promotion and marketing:



  • Support the Communication project assistant for the Publication sale and distribution.

  • Support the communication team in the organization of events and in the marketing workflow of the WCC in collaboration with the Director of Communication, the Communication Project Assistant and Communication Officers.

  • Undertake a variety of administrative tasks as required by the communication team.

  • Other related tasks as requested by the Director of Communication.


Qualifications and special requirements:


Education:


Student in Information sciences; communication or related field.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize and stay solution-oriented.

  • Demonstration of professional ambition and integrity.


Language skills:


Ability to correspond in French and English.


Computer skills:


Ability to work with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word
