To support Nestlé’s efforts to develop the food packaging of the future, the Food Safety Research Department at the Nestlé Institute of Food Safety and Analytical Sciences is seeking a Food Packaging Safety Scientist.

• Safety testing and evaluation of novel and existing food contact materials to support NR and R&D new packaging development projects


• Safety of packaging related individual chemicals and establishment of guidance values to facilitate further applications of newly developed materials by Nestlé R&D units


• Development of safety-based guidance values for non-intentionally added substances (NIAS)


• Contribution to the establishment and implementation of a database of food contact material substances


• Contribute/develop/execute research activities to improve safety assessment of packaging materials and related chemicals, such as involving the application and integration of novel in vitro/in silico hazard identification and characterization methods to speed up safety based decision making and risk management


• Plan, manage and interpret externally contracted (in contract research organizations) experimental studies. Direct, problem-solve, interpret and report internal laboratory studies

• PhD in Toxicology or related field in Life Sciences


• Profound knowledge in standard risk assessment of chemicals, including regulatory toxicology


• Risk assessment in a context of R&D (safety by design)


• Very good knowledge and strong interest for packaging


• Exposure and strong interest for alternative methods in toxicology and risk assessment (in vitro/in silico approaches)


• Directing, problem-solving, interpretation and reporting of laboratory studies


• Laboratory experience in in vitro toxicology


• Communication (written and oral), collaboration/cooperation and networking


• Coaching of junior colleagues


• Contribution/chairing international expert groups


• Fluent in English
