As the team leader of Control System in the Electrified Powertrain Engineering division of FPT Industrial, you will lead and be part of a highly skilled team driven to design and engineer best-in-class control systems for FPT Industrial electrified powertrain product portfolio. You will lead your engineering team for the specification, development, validation and management of control strategies at component, subsystem and system level, utilizing existing control systems engineering knowledge and cross functional engineering team members within FPT Industrial, such as engine management systems engineering. You will work in a collaborative team environment. You will be contributing to the development of advanced concepts as well as their implementation for application to on-road vehicles and non-road applications.


Electrified powertrain includes electrified engines, electrified transmissions, battery, fuel cell powertrains and their controls. The remit of this role excludes electrified engine control systems, which is an integral part of Engine Management Systems.

  ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Line management, technical guidance, leadership and motivation of electrified powertrain control systems engineering team

  • Build and maintain technical competency in the engineering team, determining open skills/engineering capacity gaps and finding resolution

  • Working in a multidisciplinary team, develop and deliver best-in-class control system solutions for FPT Industrial electrified powertrain product portfolio for full electric and fuel cell powertrains and their components

  • Ensure cross functional engineering team skills/processes and capacity are utilised to achieve the best possible engineering solution with highest efficiency

  • Develop product development plan, milestones, budgets, and scheduling

  • Develop design verification test plans, safety and standards compliance test plans

  • Lead specification of control system requirements, required tools and test systems for development and verification

  • Lead implementation of modern control system development processes, SIL/MIL/HIL, model-based code development

  • Lead integration of modelling and simulation environment with control system algorithms

  • Lead development of control systems algorithms also addressing outcomes of failure mode effect and safety analysis

  • Connect the organization to the latest technology developments and trends in industry, also monitoring market and competitors’ product

  • Develop roadmaps for future projects and products to continuously advance FPT electrified powertrain control systemsportfolioperformance

  • Collaborate closely with various internal departments / laboratories and universities

 QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 

  • You have auniversity degree in relevant engineering discipline

  • 5+ years experience in xEV powertrain control systems development from concept to market

  • Hands on experience on development and verification of control systems for xEV powertrain architectures

  • Expert level understanding on energy management for xEV powertrain arhitectures

  • Experience of mainstream automotive ECU hardware and software development following ISO26262 or IEC61508 processes

  • An expert level user of Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow and automatic code generation techniques for algorithm development

  • Have a strong understanding of Embedded Software development

  • Have a strong understanding of modelling techniques and experience/understanding of test and measurement techniques.

  • Experience/knowledge of CANape / CANoe / CANalyzer

  • Experience with embedded systems C code development

  • Strong knowledge on automotive industry software development standards/norms/requirements

  • Able to provide technical guidance to team members on what, why, and how

  • Experience of leading a high-performance engineering team

  • Strong managerial, planning, and communication skills

  • You have good English skills (spoken and written)

  • You are a highly motivated self-starter and team-player with very good communication skills

  OTHER INFORMATION: 

  • Strong knowledge on xEV powertrain architectures and their ancillaries

  • Technical understanding of battery management system and electric motor control algorithms

  • Technical understanding of fuel cell system controls

  • Experience on conventional powertrain control systems, regenerative brake integration and multi-speed automated transmission controls

  • Experience with safety critical electronic product development for automotive/commercial vehicle electrified applications

  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks

  • You could communicate in Italian and/or German
