The Crop Protection R&D Technology & Digital Integration team is currently seeking a
Technology Acquisition & Collaboration Management Head. In this role you will lead, support and facilitate the evaluation, collaboration and co-development of new technologies, compounds and products within the scope of the Crop Protection R&D pipeline internally through cross functional collaborations as well as through managing third-party relations.


Accountabilities 

  • Lead, develop and motivate a team of experts in acquisition, licensing and collaboration management for R&D projects

  • Analyze and assess new external collaborations and alliance opportunities together with CP R&D stakeholders, prepare and propose deal scope with input from Legal in order to have a most favourable business outcome

  • Support CP R&D and work closely with the CP commercial 3rd Party team to lead and/or participate in meetings and negotiations with third parties and follow-up collaboration projects for obligations (meeting, reports, prolongation, payments, etc.)

  • Support the CP R&D strategy by ensuring that the best terms are obtained for R&D collaborations and compounds/products/technology to be acquired, divested or licensed in or out

  • Co-ordinate between R&D and Commercial Functions as well as Group Companies for collaborations which extend over different R&D and/or business areas or various regions/territories

  • Co-ordinate with the commercial 3rd Party team to ensure a consistent approach to 3rd party portfolio prioritization activities and collaborations

  • Establish and maintain the collaboration and licensing database on all relevant third-party collaborations at R&D level, and links to the respective agreements at a global headquarter level

  • Act as key-account manager for Japanese companies for R&D collaborations

  • Member of the CP Early Competitor team and support the review of Biological leads through team members and resources

  • Lead the CPR Functional Collaboration Committee – Chair the meetings and manage the FCC collaboration process and budget to request, prioritize and fund proposals from the Functions

  • Partner and leverage Syngenta Ventures and M&A when appropriate.

 

Qualifications

 
Critical knowledge and education

  • A strong academic foundation in natural sciences to post-graduate level

  • Basic knowledge of CP technologies including chemistry, biological targets, etc.  and broad knowledge of the CP compounds across the industry and the Syngenta portfolio

  • Broad knowledge of Group competitors – strategy and pipeline

  • Deep understanding of needs and processes involved in obtaining agreements and deals

  • Legal and IP knowledge and training

  • Managing partnerships and strategic collaboration training


Critical experience

  • Experienced negotiator: 5+ experience in third party negotiations and relationship management 

  • Established network with key third parties or able to establish/maintain new network internally and externally

  • Good understanding of various deal structures and capable to propose and negotiate appropriate agreement in collaboration with Legal

  • Open communicator. Gains commitment of individuals and stakeholders in order to make the deal

  • Capability to foresee what is best for Syngenta and the third party

  • Capable to scope a collaboration deal and lead or participate in a negotiation team with members from legal, IP, R&D and/or business

  • Capable to understand complex agreements and IP related matters
