In the Systems & Automation Group we perform cutting-edge research and look at various aspects of seamlessly integrating variable renewable resources such as wind and solar. We focus on the challenges and opportunities in the future scenarios in order to enhance grid flexibility and facilitate renewable ener-gy proliferation. In this context, we offer a competitively paid internship position which provides the op-portunity of working on real-world projects in an international team of research scientists.


Your responsibilities



  • Modelling traditional and emerging technologies using ABB proprietary and commercial tools

  • Developing, maintaining and documenting new power grids analysis tools

  • Application of state-of-the-art data-driven techniques for solving model identification problems

  • Self-driven execution of challenging tasks under stimulating supervision


Your background



  • Currently pursuing an M.S. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, control engineering or a similar subject - official enrolment is essential

  • Background in traditional regression and/or (deep) machine learning techniques (e.g. reinforcement learning, neural networks)

  • Background in mathematical optimization and numerical methods (nonlinear programming, mixed-integer programming, decomposition methods)

  • Profound knowledge of and experience in Python and/or MatLab; familiarity with C/C++ is a plus

  • Experience with power system is a plus

  • Written and oral proficiency in English

  • Availability for minimum six months, preferably longer

  • Selected candidates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge during the interview. Non-EU/EFTA citizens, please note that an official university certificate showing that an internship is a mandatory part of studies is required for the work permit application.
