Research Assistant / Technician (Laborant/In)

50-60%, starting date June 1, 2020 or as agreed

The host group (Prof. Verdon Taylor) studies molecular mechanisms that control brain development and brain tumor formation, using mouse models in combination with genetic and cellular approaches. A focus of our research is to understand how stem cells and progenitors in the brain lose control of proliferation and initiate brain tumors such as gliomas.

Your position

  • As a research assistant you will join a research team and fulfill a variety of research tasks under the supervision of a Postdoctoral Researcher responsible for the project (Dr. Elena Parmigiani).

  • You are expected to master and/or become skilled in several of the technologies used by the group, including RNA isolation and quantitative PCR, western blotting, immunonistochemistry/immunofluorescence, and cell culture.

  • You will actively participate in ongoing research projects that involve the use of genetically modified mouse models.

  • In addition, you will spend a proportion of your worktime with lab management duties that include ordering reagents and genotyping mouse strains.

Your profile

  • Applicants are required to have completed an apprenticeship as molecular biology research technician (Laborant/in) and/or hold a BSc or MSc in Molecular Life Sciences.

  • Expertise in molecular biology and/or histology and cell culture is preferred.

  • The working language is English. However, knowledge of German would be an advantage.

We offer you

  • A stimulating and highly competitive research environment as part of an international research team at the Department of Biomedicine of the University of Basel.

  • Versatile tasks in a dynamic research group.
