PRODUCTION ENGINEER


JOB OVERVIEW


Ensures the manufacture of Fiber lasers. Responsible for the performance if each module and that manufacturing complies with specifications. Details production recording, carries out quality inspection and measurement of sub components of laser systems.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


Responsible for production and directing the team regarding the testing and screening of modules. Responsible for fault finding including root cause analysis tools and making recommendations for manufacturing improvements to maximise efficiencies. Provides Key Performance Indicators on achieved specification limits and yields. Leads production test and yield improvements. Responsible for receiving the handover of new product. Provides input to the engineering through the life of the product including any changes or improvements to the product. Works with the sales and business team to approval special requests prior to order acceptance. Works with the product engineers to ensure that design is manufacturable. Ensures quality mentoring and leadership of the technicians, building up skills and capabilities.


KEY INTERACTIONS


With the Quality department, Research and Development, Production line, with Electronics department, with Purchasing and Engineering team for new product introduction and Engineering support.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED


Relevant degree qualification desirable, HNC equivalent technical at a minimum and relevant Quality qualification.


SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED


Organised, structured and methodical. Laser manufacturing. Management skills. Manufacturing techniques such as SPC, Six Sigma and Lean sigma Principles. Communication and team building skills.  Must be a team player, self motivated, with an attention to detail.


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED


At least two years of experience in the photonics optical industry. Experience with engineering documentation; bill of materials, work instructions, and assembly process documentation for new products.  Experience in clean room environment. Experience working in ISO9001 controlled development processes. Solid multidisciplinary engineering experience in op to mechanics and fiber optics. Experience interacting with a broad range of other engineers.


TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS


Up 10 % annually.

Must be able to read English work instructions capably, spoken English an advantage.
