We are:


The Frontiers communications team, working to bring amazing science to a broad public and support a global switch to Open Science.


We’re looking for:


A Science Communications Manager to generate widespread and regular coverage of Frontiers research in major outlets, as well as manage the Frontiers news site.


Duties



  • Develop and implement science communication strategies and project plans

  • Identify newsworthy articles published in Frontiers journals, across a wide range of scientific fields

  • Produce engaging press releases, news stories, videos and other media content explaining scientific discoveries to a lay audience

  • Ensure the scientific accuracy, editorial style and overall clarity of all content

  • Manage a pool of freelance science writers

  • Liaise with journal teams and scientists for content production and approval

  • Disseminate press releases to journalists via multiple channels

  • Maintain a journalist database & develop media relationships

  • Monitor media pick up

  • Publish search-engine optimized posts on the Frontiers news site

  • Revamp and grow the Frontiers news site

  • Manage the science communications budget

  • Analyze key metrics and report on KPIs


The position requires a highly motivated self-starter who can work independently and to strict deadlines.


Requirements



  • Native-level English speaker

  • Master’s Degree or higher in any scientific field, or Bachelor’s Degree in any scientific field plus a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a researcher

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a scientific communicator, science journalist or otherwise communicating complex topics to journalists and a lay audience

  • Demonstrated ability in developing, implementing and reporting back on communication strategies

  • Ability to identify newsworthy angles

  • Ability to analyze scientific data and fact-check

  • Excellent writing and editing skills

  • Experience with managing websites

  • Excellent time-management skills, with ability to juggle multiple projects and stakeholders and meet deadlines

  • Collaborative team player, able to work well with multi-functional groups

  • Able to work independently and proactively
