Your mission :

About three million children die within one month of life each year in the world. 99% of these deaths occur in developing countries. Among the causes of neonatal mortality, hypothermia (low body temperature) is one of the most important in developing countries, even though up to 40% of deaths associated with hypothermia could be prevented by simple and appropriate thermal management.



Access to incubators and health monitoring for newborns is absolutely essential in the fight against child mortality. At the EssentialTech Centre, you will lead the final stages of an important project aimed at developing a solution adapted to the context of low-income countries. You will be in charge of finalizing the research, in order to move to the industrialization of this technology in the world, starting with Kenya.



We are looking for an engineer with a strong entrepreneurial spirit for the GlobalNeoNat and BmAi projects.



Main duties and responsibilities include :



  • Lead the technological development of the projects in collaboration with internal and external partners in Switzerland and in Africa

  • Work on systems engineering research to finalize the development of technology in line with current medical devices standards

  • Ensure alignment between technological aspects and the sustainability of the deployment model (business model) especially in low-income countries

  • Contribute to the transfer of the project from the academic world to the launch of a start-up

Your profile :



  • Engineer/Master's degree in Microtechnology, Electricity - or other relevant to a project in the biomedical field;

  • Computer science experience/expertise ;

  • Entrepreneurial experience (e.g. as CTO) and/or experience in the private sector in the field of medical technology ;

  • Strong attraction for entrepreneurship (creation of start-ups) ;

  • Personality with the ability to have an overview as well as a meticulous view on technical details and safety;

  • A person who loves a challenge, with a strong resilience;

  • Great capacity for work and self-motivation;

  • Experience working in/with Africa, knowledge of health systems in this context an asset;

  • An excellent level of spoken and written English;

  • Willingness to travel.
