Director - Regional Privacy Officer Europe

Job Summary  


This position is a senior level position located in Morges, Switzerland, responsible for supporting Incyte’s Global Privacy program processes and procedures and representing the program throughout Europe and other locations as needed.


Essential Functions of the Job



  • In collaboration with Incyte’s Global Privacy team:

    • Develop and execute against an annual European Privacy Plan.

    • Work with the Global Privacy team, senior management, business attorneys, EU legal team, and IT to ensure the European organization maintains a consistent and harmonized approach to processing personal data.

    • Manage the European Privacy Assessment process and complete Data Protection Impact Assessments as required under applicable data protection laws such as the GDPR.

    • Ensure any transfers of personal data comply with all applicable laws.

    • Train European employees and prepare company communications on company privacy policies, data handling practices and procedures, and legal obligations.

    • Serve as Incyte’s Data Protection Officer throughout the Europe or liaise with local country Data Protection Officers as applicable.

    • Work with IT and management to ensure appropriate technical solutions are in place to protect personal data.

    • In coordination with the Global Privacy Officer, manage Incyte’s response to European security incidents and data breach events.

    • Assist in assessing contracts in which the organization has disclosed or outsourced the processing of personal information to third-party vendors and assist with vetting those vendors where necessary

    • Record processing activities in collaboration with IT and business units.

    • Work with IT and management to ensure appropriate technical solutions are in place to protect personal data.

    • Prepare and present reports on European privacy risks, metrics, and compliance activities to the Global Privacy Officer, key stakeholders, and senior management.

    • In conjunction with the Global Privacy team, assist with handling communications with data protection regulators within Europe.

    • Process data subject requests and communications.

    • Assist with inquiries and complaints regarding Incyte’s privacy policies in collaboration with IT, Legal, and other internal and external groups as necessary, and consistent with Incyte’s Compliance Investigation process and procedures.

    • Remain current on and keep management up-to-date regarding any changes to applicable European privacy and data protection laws, trends, and best practices.

    • Coordinate with the EU Legal team and Director, Region Europe Compliance, to identify opportunities to collaborate on joint initiatives and projects.

    • Contribute positively to a strong culture of privacy and ethics.



Qualifications 



  • Law degree and/or Master’s level degree in a relevant area

  • Education in privacy and/or data protection or CIPP/E certification or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire

  • Experience in privacy, compliance, and/or managing an European privacy program within the pharmaceutical/medical device/healthcare industries

  • Understanding of legal, regulatory, compliance, and business environment relevant to the pharmaceutical industry

  • Technically-minded with the ability to analyze data protection and processing issues within the context of IT systems, web based technologies, and functions

  • Detail-oriented

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions based on global privacy policy as they relate to privacy and Incyte’s business operations

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong organizational, management, and decision-making skills

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills including the ability to communicate effectively through presentations and individual discussions with all levels of the organization

  • Ability to influence key decision makers

  • Able to proactively identify issues and develop business-friendly solutions

  • Results-oriented, team player, and able to work well with all levels of the organization

  • Fluent in English with ability to speak other languages preferred

  • Experience working with a company headquartered in the US a plus.

  • Ability to travel throughout Europe and other international locations such as the United States, up to 3-5 times a year.
