The Department of Global Infectious Hazards Preparedness (GIH) advances global efforts to prevent and control existing and emerging infectious diseases by increasing access to evidence-based interventions; fostering impactful innovation; and leveraging technical, operational and strategic partnerships. In addition, GIH develops global mechanisms to facilitate coordination and collaboration between countries and multi-sectoral partners for catastrophic events of natural, accidental or deliberate origin. The department of Global Infectious Hazards Preparednessis committed to delivering GPW13 Outcome 2.2 Epidemics and pandemics prevented, through:
- Delivering risk assessment, technical guidance, interventions and control strategies for country impact
- Promoting innovation and adoption of new technologies,
- Aligning and coordinating international action through trusted partnership.
- Ensuring vulnerable populations have access to life-saving interventions and supplies.
Within the framework of the delegated authority, the incumbent is assigned all or part of the following responsibilities:
1. Programmatically support the extensive activities and operations of the STAG-IH, including planning, administration, management, and reporting.
2. Compile, organize, prepare briefing notes, proposals, reports, technical and operational documents required for senior management and consolidate and disseminate programme information.
3. Lead and manage infectious hazard vulnerability assessments project, aiming to identify high-risk countries for infectious hazards thereby prioritizing countries where higher impact is expected by interventions by WHO and partners.
4. Prepare, organize and support specialized technical projects, in collaboration with the Scientific Advisor in the Director's office.- Perform other related duties including replacing and backstopping as required.
Essential: First level University degree in public health, health Policy or related field.
Desirable: Post-graduate degree in public health, health policy, governance.Training in public health.
Essential: A minimum of at least five years supporting public health projects at international level including experience in outbreak response. Working or living in LMICs.
Desirable: Relevant work experience in WHO, other UN agencies, relevant non-governmental ororganizations.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 60,962 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4471 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
