About the role


 


As part of Barry Callebaut’s sustainability program (“Forever Chocolate”) a 2025 goal has been set to work on the 4 pillars of Prospering farmers, Zero Child Labor, Thriving Nature and 100% Sustainable Chocolate.


In the context of our Thriving Nature pillar, and the commitments of becoming forest and carbon positive by 2025, we are currently looking to recruit a Carbon and Forest Project Manager. The incumbent will report to the Director, Carbon and Forest, and will be closely working with the entire sustainability team at our HQ, and our teams in cocoa origin countries.


 


Key Responsibilities include


 



  • Support the development of the carbon positive business case which will get Barry Callebaut to carbon positive by 2025 and facilitate its implementation

  • Drive and innovate our carbon strategy, including driving internal carbon reduction plans, and CO2 footprint compensation through in-setting, offsetting projects and permanent carbon sink certifications

  • Drive environmental projects with research institutes, certification bodies, internal and external customers, suppliers and other key stakeholders

  • Lead and coordinate Origin teams, consultants with respect to developing Large Scale Biochar and Restoration strategy and related activities

  • Support fundraising with Customers and Financing Partners

  • Lead the application process of DeveloPPP, USAid and other programs, as deemed appropriate.

  • Drive innovation in carbon and forest related projects

  • Manage the footprint and sequestration calculations with GoldStandard and work closely with our Communications and Reporting team to regularly report on our progress

  • Work closely with the Communications team, Sustainability Director, Global Corporate Accounts, the Director, Carbon and Forest, and the CO2 Credit Development and Trading Manager to build up an attractive carbon neutral standard product for customers

  • Follow developments of global carbon markets and work closely with the CO2-Credit Development and Trading Manager to help build the carbon positive business case project portfolio

  • Develop the forest strategy and lead the implementationand work closely with the monitoring and data team to strengthen our work on proving deforestation free supply chains

  • Coordination and management of activities amongst Carbon and Forest Project Officer and origin teams

  • Represent Barry Callebaut in working groups of GoldStandard, Swissco, ECA, DISCO, GISCO and others


 


About you


 



  • Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, agronomy or similar field

  • 5- 10 years of  solid experience in Carbon/GHG Accounting

  • Profound knowledge of DeveloPPP and relevant networks

  • Climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, life cycle analysis is an asset

  • In-depth understanding of land use and deforestation related set of problems

  • Project management skills and experience in editing and defending successful project proposals to third parties

  • Strong management skills applied in diverse sets of stakeholders

  • Systemic and conceptual  thinking, ability to manage data and information flows

  • Excellent verbal and written communication in at least English, French is also an advantage

  • Ability to operate in a multi-country & -cultural environment

  • Focus on people and ability to bring different stakeholders together combined with strong leadership skills

  • Ability to work closely with large and complex remote teams, without hierarchical authority

  • “Can-do” attitude and dynamic working style

  • High motivation to bring about sustainable change in complex supply chains

  • Well organized and structured

  • The role might require travel (about 20% of time) to cocoa producing countries.
