Job Detail

PhD Position in Hearing Research with a focus on Cochlear Implants 100%

Inseriert am: 11.11.2020

The challenge

Cochlear implants enable deaf people to hear and understand spoken language again. In cochlear implantation, an electrode array is inserted into the inner ear (cochlea) to electrically stimulate the auditory nerve. The electrode array can also be used to record telemetry data and estimate surgical and physiological parameters associated with the implantation outcome. In this project you will solve cutting-edge scientific and technical challenges related to cochlear implantation. Together with our engineering team and clinical experts, you will implement and optimize algorithms in close collaboration with an industrial partner. The project is based on existing data and algorithms and aims to deliver a clinically applicable and industrially feasible prototype.

Your profile

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or other relevant fields

  • Experience with algorithm development (Python) and development tools (versioning, testing,...)

  • Experience in medical image analysis is an advantage

  • Communicative person (interaction with clinicians and industrial partners)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in German and English

The package

As a doctoral student, you will become part of the Hearing Research Laboratory, a clinically oriented research group of the ENT Department at the Inselspital and the ARTORG Center. Our research group aims to provide innovative technology to help hearing impaired patients and to assist clinicians in the diagnosis and therapy of hearing pathologies. Our multidisciplinary team consists of engineers, sur-geons, audiologists, and physicists. We offer you the opportunity to work and train at a unique interface between medicine and engineering.

As a leading university hospital with a rich tradition, the Inselspital is part of the Insel Group and is a centre of medical expertise and high technology with an international reputation as well as being a first-class training and research centre.
