OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The IVB Department's mission is ‘To promote the health and well-being of all people, in all countries, by advancing the impact of vaccines and immunization programmes through partnership and leadership; policies and guidance; evidence and research'. Our work is aligned with the WHO 13th Global Programme of Work (GPW13), with a central focus to drive impact in countries, to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being at all ages.The Strategic Objectives of the IVB Department include:
1) establishing global immunization agendas, strategies and policies to build and harness commitment to action;
2) promoting research and innovation to increase impact of vaccines, technologies and immunization practices;
3) advancing evidence-based introduction and access to vaccines and immunization innovations;
4) optimizing immunization delivery to ensure high-impact, sustainable and equitable programmes; and
5) harnessing Vaccine Alliances and Partnerships, including collaborations with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and key WHO partners, towards cross-programme coordination and collaboration in pursuit of universal health coverage.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
1- Contribute to developing a mechanism to develop and deliver a global vaccine research and development agenda, including leveraging and building upon regional R&D agendas
2.- Develop novel frameworks to quantify components of the value of vaccines, for example value attribution of vaccines against antimicrobial resistance.
3- Collaborate with regional focal points and external implementation partners to understand the public health need for, and support the product development of novel vaccine delivery technologies.
4-Participate in the development ofpreferred product characteristics and technical roadmaps for new vaccines and novel vaccine products
5- Contribute to the development of pre-policy guidance for new vaccines and novel vaccine products.
6- Support the activities of the Product Development for Vaccines Advisory Committee as required.
7- Develop the concept and scope of work for external contractors as required.
8- Develop materials for presentation and communication of projects as needed.
9-Organize various Steering Committee and subject matter working groups of external experts to oversee prioritization and platform projects and contribute to strategic direction of programme
10- Develop project plans and contingencies to co-ordinate and integrate workstreams to maintain a cohesive strategy to build and implement prioritization and platform approaches.
11- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: A first university degree in biological sciences, epidemiology or public health related to the functions of the position.
Desirable: An advanced university degree in one of the above-mentioned fields.Professional project management qualification.
Experience
Essential: At least five years of international related professional experience in technical management of a public health related programme, ideally involving multiple global immunization partners. Demonstrated working experience of data analysis, developing concepts/models/frameworks with diverse stakeholders and partners.
Desirable: Demonstrated working experience within a global organization.
Skills
- Solid technical skills in natural sciences.- Good understanding of process for vaccine development and evaluation/prioritization in various contexts.- Strong background in conducting and coordinating analysis of data to support evidence review.- Excellent skills in scientific writing and budget management.- Excellent oral and written communication and ability to take initiative.- Ability to present technical information in lay terms and facilitate interaction of and communication to diverse stakeholders would be an asset.- Knowledge of vaccine impact modelling or modelling design would be an asset.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 60,962 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4425 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
