Engineering Director, YouTube Trust and Safety

Minimum qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.


  • Experience building and leading engineering teams, including managers and senior managers.


  • Professional experience in software engineering with experience building and implementing Trust and Safety strategies.


  • Experience in consumer-facing product design across Web and Mobile.



Preferred qualifications:



  • Experience in building products with large user base user data to improve current products.


  • Experience with Security technology, from network infrastructure to in-stack exploits.


  • Ability to inspire and drive significant and long lasting change in a complex, global operation of significant size.


  • Ability to drive product excellence across many different products lines. Ability to work well cross-functionally across a matrixed environment.



As a Director within YouTube’s Trust and Safety team, you’ll define and execute our strategy to protect the YouTube platform by inhibiting misconduct and also encouraging respectful behavior. This will be done by influencing product design broadly across YouTube to create features that are hard to abuse, and create positive feedback loops of virtuous, valuable activity and interactions on the platform.


You will utilize your technical and leadership expertise to lead engineers, manage a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

  • Inspire and lead teams to implement novel solutions to comprehensively reduce inauthentic activity across YouTube’s entire ecosystem (feature, Application Programming Interface, technical stack).


  • Operate as the key technical leader in security issues, collaborating with core Google security teams.


  • Drive and lead the software development efforts by driving architecture selection, software design, execution and operation.


  • Partner closely with Product, Policy, Legal, Operations and other Core Google teams to create industry leading, compelling experiences that increase the trustworthiness of our systems with minimal impediment to the natural growth of a fun, quirky and engaging global platform.


  • Serve as the resident expert as well as public face and voice for Google in these areas.
