Post-Doctoral Fellow (m/f/d) Ecological Modeling (Postdoc)


We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow on a 2-year fixed term contract in our R&D department in Stein AG where you will be given the opportunity to develop new skills while working at the cutting edge of science and innovation. In this role, you will work closely with our chemistry and biology science teams with the goal to further develop our ecological models for soil organisms. The model framework integrates chemical environmental fate modelling, individual-based ecological modelling and toxicokinetic - toxicodynamic modelling.


Your responsibilities:



  • Efficiently conceive, plan, prioritize and execute ecological model development (incl. conceptualization, prototyping, implementation, parameterization, testing & validation, application and use for decision making)

  • Integrate ecological models with chemical environmental fate modelling

  • Parameterize and test models using bespoke laboratory, glasshouse and field experiment data

  • Apply models to increase system understanding and improve decision making

  • Maintain and develop state-of-the-art knowledge in environmental systems modelling

  • Apply knowledge creatively to solve problems

  • Communicate regularly on research activities

 

Qualifications

 

What are we looking for:



  • A PhD in environmental sciences, biology, ecotoxicology or similar

  • Experience in ecological modelling and ideally with individual based models (IBMs) for ecology

  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data

  • Good quantitative and computing skills

  • Basic understanding of the fate and effects of chemicals in the environment (incl. soil)

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken), German would be an advantage but is not a requirement

  • Ability to interact in multidisciplinary teams

  • Proven organizational & communication skills
