Role Purpose:



  • Independently design and execute automated experiments to produce small to medium-scale chemical libraries or to optimize chemical reactions.

  • Provides scientific insight and advice to the Automation Chemistry lead.

  • Understand basic reaction mechanisms in order to solve problems and ensure adequate safety measures.

  • Independently carry out the purification of library compounds.

  • Perform, document and review risk assessment according to Syngenta standards.


Accountabilities:



  • Integrate and establish workflow with automation robots, such as liquid handler, solid dispenser, parallel synthesizer and high throughput analytical systems.

  • Carries out experimental work safely and in line with all relevant HSE policies and processes, and actively seeks to improve HSE and housekeeping in their area.

  • Be aware of the hazards of reagents used, know where to find hazard information when unsure.

  • Represent full platforms service to projects and proactively seek out new opportunities to serve projects in Automation platform (Automation Partners).

  • Propose new platform capabilities which serve the needs of project customers which are not currently delivered by equipment and workflows.

  • Proactive application of new technologies and methodologies from the literature and communication to colleagues.

  • Oversee maintenance of platform equipment and leads renewal/replacement initiatives e.g. CAPEX

  • Involvement in project library design including expertise in digital tools (e.g. Spotfire, Stardrop, Library Design Tool).

  • Solve difficult practical problems through suggestion of new reagents or techniques in own work or that of colleagues

  • Take a rational and systematic approach to tackle synthesis problems using knowledge of organic chemistry and own experience.

 

Qualifications

 

 



  • BSc, MSc in Organic Chemistry OR Vocational trained “Laborant” with more than 3 years of working experience, preferably with experience in Automation Chemistry

  • Takes a pro-active role in own personal development.

  • Champions collaborative ways of working, an ethos of continuous improvement and a positive attitude.

  • Eager to continuously learn and advance own and others knowledge, incl. programming with relevant software packages.

  • Organises own time to deliver work programs in a timely way and maximise personal productivity, in line with project/platform priorities; ability to work under time pressure.

  • Demonstrate commitment and strong work ethics.

  • Demonstrate openness to change, constructive challenge & feedback.

  • Networking with colleagues to obtain suggestions for routes, reagent selections, reaction conditions, etc.

  • Proficiency in searching literature andSciFinder or Reaxys to influence the routes to target compounds or reagent selection (alternative conditions, alternative reagents, etc.).
