Job Description



  • Aligns and reviews deliverables from the different BES/automation work packages as a Recipe Lead. Ensures the right technical prioritization on project and operational activities. Works closely together with respective BES Project Managers and peers in and outside of the department to ensure deliverables are ready in time for the different milestones throughout the project and/or to meet operation’s schedule. Works closely together with the work package owner of Library and Standards to ensure the defined standards are followed consistently and the library modules are used as intended.

  • Works in close collaboration with the system Process Owners, Manufacturing staff, Quality, Manufacturing Sciences and other departments to ensure the overall recipe design and implementation meet Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality requirements for the operation of the plant.

  • Writes & reviews DCS/automation documentation as defined by the project and during the operation phase. Participates in the design, development and testing of software. Troubleshoots and corrects as needed.

  • Participates in the creation of the BES validation strategy together with the BES CSV & SOL Quality representatives. Collaborates with other disciplines across the campus to ensure overall coordination of the tasks and consistency in execution strategies. Seeks opportunities for optimization of the design, programming and test activities within the BES scope.

  • Supports the coordination of the work (at various stages of the Project, i.e.: design, start-up commissioning, qualification, validation and operatoin) with the other automation engineers to balance workload and ensure consistency across the group.

  • Interfaces with customer groups on campus to ensure design, execution, and delivery are conducted in accordance to Global Engineering Procedures and Biogen Execution Systems standards, including Quality, Facilities, Engineering, MS, MFG, and EHS&S. This will include building strong relationships with the customer base and helping them set the proper requirements and expectations.


Qualifications



  • The incumbent is required to have minimum a Bachelor of Science degree in Automation, Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

  • A minimum of 7 years related automation experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A minimum of 3 years in a large scale pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, with direct experience in support of manufacturing operations.

  • The incumbent must have demonstrated capability for technical leadership of complex DCS (DeltaV)/Automation projects with integrated MES systems initial development through validation and operation of the facility.

  • This position may need to travel up to 10% and may require working various shift models to ensure deadlines are met.


Additional Information


Recipe Lead responsible for the technical design, setup and structure of the DCS system (DeltaV) to enable the Start-up, Commissioning, Validation and Operation of the new Large-Scale Manufacturing facility located at the Solothurn, Switzerland campus. Scope includes defining the technical strategy for execution of the DCS scope aligned with the Global Biogen Execution Systems (BES) approach of controlling the process and information systems within the Next Generation Manufacturing Operations. The Sr. Engineer will drive technical alignment between the different work packages across the automation project and system by ensuring standards are followed across the team.  Additionally, the Sr. Engineer will be expected to identify gaps in standards, modify existing standards, and contribute to new standards, where applicable.  The Sr. Engineer is also responsible for overseeing & reviewing contractors/integrators work during design, construction, commissioning, validation and operation.


This scope will also include aligning the scope definition of the required hardware coordinated with the equipment vendors, development of the DCS software and system coordinated with the required project schedule to enable equipment FAT’s, on-site SAT’s, commissioning and validation of the process systems to meet the overall project schedule. Further to coordinate technical interfaces with the MES (Syncade) system, Data Management (SynTQ), Historian system (PI), Building Management System (BMS), Central Alarm Management System, and the Manufacturing Control Network (MCN).


Following startup and validation, the DeltaV Engineer will be responsible for the ongoing operation, improvements, support, and maintenance of the systems. The DeltaV engineer will also work across all areas of BES, i.e.: DeltaV, Syncade, Data Systems, and integrations.
