To achieve our goals, Roche pRED Neuroscience & Rare Diseases (NRD) is currently undergoing a major and exciting recruitment effort for a large number of new positions. The position sits in the Systems Neuroscience Section in NRD, but you will also collaborate across the pRED organization.
We are looking for a highly motivated Discovery Scientist to join our laboratories in the Systems Neuroscience Section. You will contribute to the expansion of our drug discovery efforts in the area of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases, sleep physiology, cellular and network communication, translational circuit readouts, and in vivo neuropharmacology. Your work will help us to identify the next generation of targets and aid robust decision-making on our future therapies.
As a Discovery Scientist, your main responsibilities are:
Actively plan and perform data analysis on complex cellular and in vivo physiology and behavioral datasets using diverse computational approaches, with a strong emphasis on Machine Learning.
Support the assessment and implementation of approaches for describing the microstructure of spontaneous rodent behavior (e.g. MoSeq; CAPTURE; B-SOiD or DeepLabCut combined with other supervised or unsupervised machine learning approaches).
Learn representations of the individual features and of time series experimental data
Determine disease progression trajectories and implement classifiers on these trajectories.
Create visualization methods for the trajectories.
Lead or support research projects, working in cross-functional project teams, reporting on progress, with defined deliverables and deadlines.
Integrate Develop and expand data analysis workflows, and explain results to expert and non-expert audiences.
Develop novel ideas and explore new targets through either in-house research initiatives and/or external collaborations.
In addition, you will:
Demonstrate scientific excellence by publishing original research and presenting at scientific meetings.
Maintain laboratory records and ensure a FAIR data environment and work practices.
Who you are:
With a Ph.D., you have post-doctoral experience in neuroscience or a related field. You have a strong publication record in topics related to systems neuroscience and machine learning. Your publications in machine learning center around time series of healthcare data, preferably with a focus on tracking the development of neurological disorders using physiological, electrophysiological, and motion capture data.
You must have hands-on experience with the development of machine learning models in biological systems, for example, to demonstrate group differences or to study the effect of pharmacological or genetic challenges. A strength would be the application of these methodologies to both ex vivo and in vivo electrophysiological data sets or motion capture data from behavioral studies. Furthermore, you should show expertise in the analysis of time series data and the application of deep learning models to predict disease outcome.
You are a strong team player, and you foster a collaborative spirit with scientists and colleagues. You can adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment, are fluent in English, and have good presentation and communication skills. You are well organized and committed to formal record keeping.
