About the role


 


In the context of Forever Chocolate, Barry Callebaut has a commitment to become carbon positive by 2025. To achieve this objective, the company has to reduce its carbon footprint and compensate for the remaining footprint. A large part of the companies’ footprint is generated by the non-cocoa raw materials used in the production of end products. The purpose of this CO2 Project Manager is developing, managing and implementing CO2 reduction and compensation projects. These projects will be the basis to achieve the companies’ 2025 CO2 targets. The incumbent will develop a project portfolio that allows the company to achieve its 2025 carbon footprint target. Projects will address CO2 reduction and removal, and include insetting and offsetting approaches in sectors such as dairy, sugar, palm oil and soy.


 


Key responsibilities include


 



  • Refine existing carbon reduction strategy with complete market analysis considering insetting and offsetting options to 2025

  • Develop a portfolio of CO2 reduction and compensation projects that allows Barry Callebaut to become carbon positive in its non-cocoa raw materials supply chains that includes insetting and carbon trading offset markets

  • Design, manage and implement in-setting and off-setting projects in non-cocoa raw material sectors

  • Oversee the verification and certification audits of CO2 impacts of these projects

  • Work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including raw material buyers, consultants, NGOs, customers, suppliers and, donors among others

  • Follow the regulatory and policy environment relating CO2 emissions, e.g. under the Paris Agreement, EU regulations, and National laws to assess implications for Barry Callebaut

  • Assess the business case for BC to develop CO2 credits from its various CO2 reduction and CO2 removal activities, with an initial main focus on the activities related to dairy supply chains


 


 


About you


 



  • Master degree in sustainability, environmental studies, agriculture, or similar

  • Understanding of carbon markets and regulatory and political developments around climate change and CO2 emissions is required

  • 7-10 years of experience in designing and managing CO2 insetting and offsetting projects, including the verification and certification of CO2 impacts

  • Understanding of the regulatory environment relating to climate change and greenhouse gas emissions

  • Industry and agronomic familiarity of important raw material sectors for Barry Callebaut, such as dairy, beet and cane sugar, palm oil, coconut, or soy

  • Knowledge of the key players and processes in CO2 credit generation, certification and trading

  • Ability to design and manage projects combined with knowledge of key project management tools

  • Ability to assess a complex environment, extract the key strategic implications for BC, develop partnerships with and manage key stakeholders

  • “Can-do” entrepreneurial attitude, dynamic and pro-active working style

  • Multi-tasking project management skills and experience combined with Stakeholder management skills

  • Creative, out of the box thinking

  • Ability to operate in a multi-cultural environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication in at least English, additional languages, such as Spanish, are a plus
